I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I know I ate myself silly. Now I have a ton of left overs and I need to do something with them!
So how about a casserole?
Now to find the right beer to go with it.
I chose Sweet Water Brewing Company’s Hash Brown. It has hop hash infused and is part of a seasonal release.
The Style: India Style Brown Ale with 6.2% alc/vol.
Aroma: A little spicy, hops, and malt.
Color: It has a reddish dark brown color.
Taste: There’s a hint of chocolate along with some citrus and hops flavor. The bottle says there should also be some caramel flavor, but I don’t detect it.
Level of Recommendation: It’s a yummy fall beer that’s not too heavy for a big meal.
Thanksgiving Leftover Casserole is really dependent on three ingredients:
- Stuffing (or mash potatoes)
In a casserole dish, layer a mix of light and dark meat turkey until the bottom of the dish can no longer be seen. Pour gravy over the turkey and spread evenly over the meat. Add in the stuffing until everything is covered.
Mashed potatoes are a good substitute if you made mashed potatoes instead. The stuffing my family makes for Thanksgiving is very similar to mashed potatoes.
The casserole is thick and creamy, which is balanced by the beer. This pairing is on the rich side and full of flavors. You don’t need a lot for this pairing to work well.
Level of Recommendation: A great little feast of Thanksgiving leftovers.
