The Big Game is this weekend. Who’s ready to watch the end of the football season? I will if I can get a signal with my antenna (yeah I don’t have cable).
So for everyone staying at home to watch the Big Game, I think I’ve found a good pairing for you. Meatball subs and Empire Brewing Company’s SLO MO’. It’s quick and easy to make. Perfect if you are planning a party.
This week’s beer is SLO MO’ India Pale Ale featuring Mosaic Hops says that it has “bright citrus notes for a crisp dry finish”. How does it measure up for the end of football season?
Style: American IPA with 6.5% alc./vol.
Color: Medium amber
Taste: Dry and hoppy
Level of Recommendation: It’s good and I would like to have this beer on hand while watching a game.
What you’ll need:
- 1 lb of ground beef
- 1 large onion
- 1 egg
- 1 jar of marinara sauce
- Sub or hot dog buns
- Provolone cheese
- Parmesan cheese
Finely mince the onions and mix with the ground beef and egg. Form into small meatballs and place in a large skillet that can be covered. Add in the jar of marinara sauce and allow to simmer on the stove for about 20 minutes or until the meatballs are fully cooked.
Cut open the buns and line with the provolone cheese. Add in the meatballs and sauce. Top with parmesan cheese.
These two are yummy and filling. I think the marinara brings out a little more of the hops flavor of the beer. The cheese helps to keep the acidity down.
Level of Recommendation: These two work well together and I would definitely recommend them for a Big Game party.
