Winter Beer

Chicken Alfredo with Space Dust IPA

I hope everyone enjoyed the Big Game yesterday.

It’s still pretty cold outside and I saw a few flurries yesterday. So, this week’s pairing is Chicken Alfredo with Elysian’s Space Dust IPA. Hopefully it’ll help keep me warm while it’s still cold outside.

The Beer:

Elysian Space Dust has some really cool and eye catching bottle art. It’s described as bitter, late, and dry.

dscn1198Style: IPA with 8.2% alc/vol

Color: Light amber

Aroma: Hops and hints of citrus

Taste: Light and dry with notes of hops.

Level of Recommendation: It was a nice change from the heavier winter beers. This beer is prefect if you want something lighter while stuck inside in the middle of winter.

The Food:

What you’ll need: dscn1193

  • Chicken thighs cubed
  • 1 cup of heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup of parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup of butter
  • 1 clove of garlic crushed
  • Broccoli
  • Linguine
  • Salt and pepper
  • Olive oil

Start by sauteing the cubed chicken thighs in olive oil, salt, and pepper. If you have fresh broccoli, you’ll also want to start steaming it. Set both of these to the side when they are finished cooking.

Bring a pot of water to boil for the linguine. Once it starts boiling, allow the linguine to cook until tender (about 8 minutes). Drain and rinse.

While the linguine is cooking, melt the butter over medium heat in a large skillet. Add in the heavy cream and whisk until it starts to thicken and little bubbles start to form. Add in the cheese. Keep whisking until the cheese melts. Add in the crushed garlic clove. Add the chicken and broccoli in. Stir until the alfredo sauce covers everything.

Enjoy!

The Pairing:

The beer tastes really good with the cream. The sauce is a little on the thin side, making the food feel lighter, but still prefect for winter. The garlic gives the dish a little kick that is balanced out by the beer.

Level of Recommendation: When you want to escape from the winter blues for a little while.
