A Chocolate Pairing For Valentine’s Day

Another year goes by and suddenly it’s Valentine’s Day again. Since I don’t really celebrate the holiday, I was thinking about ignoring the day of love once again. Then I started seeing advertisements for chocolate themed couples massages at a certain Pennsylvania resort and I just had to make something chocolate this week.

Chocolate bark seemed like an ideal treat for the holiday, especially with strawberries (nature’s heart shaped fruit). However I wanted to change things up a bit and go for a warm drink instead of my usual beer. The fact that it’s been snowing a lot this month was also a huge factor.

So let’s enjoy strawberry chocolate bark with hot chocolate and Bailey’s Irish Cream. We might just die of chocolate overload.

The Drink:

  • Hot chocolate mix
  • 1 and a half shots of Bailey’s Irish Cream

Make your hot chocolate according to the mix you have. Stir in the Bailey’s. Adding some whipped cream or marshmallows is also highly recommended.

Level of Recommendation: This is a drink to warm you up. Grab a cuddle buddy and enjoy!

The Food:

What you’ll need:

  • Dark chocolate – one bag of your favorite chocolate chips works
  • White chocolate – a few pieces of your favorite candy bar is all you’ll need
  • Freeze dried strawberries

To melt your chocolate, place three fourths of the dark chocolate into a microwaveable bowl. Heat in the microwave in 30 second intervals until the chocolate is nice and smooth (about three). You’ll want to stir the chocolate between each heating session.

Once the chocolate is fully melted add in the last 1/4 of the chocolate and stir until fully melted. On a baking sheet lined with wax paper, spread the dark chocolate out until it’s about 1/4 of an inch thick. Place the freeze dried strawberries directly into the spread chocolate.

Melt the white chocolate in a separate dish. Once melted, place in a plastic bag. Cut one edge of the bag and drizzle the white chocolate over the strawberries and dark chocolate.

Place the cookie sheet into the fridge for 1-2 hours. Break up the chocolate once it has hardened. Enjoy.

The Pairing:

This is pairing is for all the chocolate lovers in the world. It’s rich, creamy, and just a little bit tart thanks to the strawberries. The Baileys Irish Cream tastes amazing in the hot chocolate and balances well with the strawberries. You don’t need a lot to enjoy this pairing either.

Level of Recommendation: When you love chocolate just as much as your significant other.
