Greens, Eggs, & Prosciutto Sandwich with Bob’s 1st Ale

Crazy weather we’re having in the Northeastern US. I certainly hope the summer is a lot nicer. Okay maybe that’s wishful thinking, but all this craziness has put me in the mood to have breakfast for dinner. And since Dr. Seuss’ birthday was on the 2nd, how about a little something inspired by him?

The Beer:

Magic Hat has an Irish style red ale called Bob’s 1st Ale. It has some pretty cool bottle art, dscn1218making the word’s look abstract and like they could have been a part of Dr. Seuss’ world.

Style: Irish style red ale with 4.6% alc./vol.

Color: Dark ruby

Aroma: Deep ale flavors

Taste: Smooth, with mild Earthy flavors.

Level of Recommendation: It’s easy to drink and flavorful.

The Food:

What you’ll need: dscn1215

  • Whole Wheat English Muffins
  • Eggs
  • 1 Tomato sliced
  • Spinach
  • Prosciutto
  • Butter
  • Dried Rosemary
  • Dried Thyme
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Slice your English Muffins in half and toast until golden brown. In two separate pans, allow your butter to melt. In one pan place in the tomato slices with salt, pepper, rosemary, and thyme. Turn after a few seconds. In the other pan, fry up your eggs (one egg per sandwich) with a little salt, pepper, rosemary, and thyme. Carefully flip your eggs to cook both sides, but try not to break the yokes.

Layer your English Muffins with the tomatoes, spinach, prosciutto, fried egg, and butter from the pans.

You might want a fork and knife for this sandwich because mine fell apart after the first bites.

The Pairing:

This is a savory meal, full of flavors that balance well with the bitter ale. The salty prosciutto is a nice contrast to the more savory flavors. The herbs also add a nice touch. It’s a delicious pairing for any time of day.

Level of Recommendation: When you want brunch, but don’t want to leave home.
