The snow has melted and the flowers are slowly starting to bloom. Spring has finally arrived in the Northeastern US. I think it’s time for a picnic. This week I’m making Turkey Avocado Pinwheels to go with Sweet Water’s Brewing Company’s Squeeze Box. It should be a nice combination for the start of spring.
Squeeze Box is a “catch and release seasonal” grapefruit IPA. It has eye catching bottle art.
Style: Grapefruit IPA with 6.1% alc/vol.
Color: Medium amber or dark orange.
Aroma: Hops and citrus.
Taste: Refreshing with mild grapefruit flavors at the end.
Level of Recommendation: Good for a mildly warm spring day.
What you’ll need:
- Oven roasted turkey slices
- Thinly sliced cheddar cheese
- 1/2 an avocado
- Whole wheat wraps
- Whole Grain Dijon Mustard
Slice the cheese and avocado into match sticks. On one of the whole wheat wraps place the turkey, cheese, avocado, and spinach. Tightly roll into a wrap, then slice into the pinwheels. Each pinwheel should be about two inches tall. Add a small spoonful of whole grain mustard to the top of each pinwheel.
The spiciness of the mustard and the saltiness of the turkey compliment the hops flavor in the beer. The avocado and cheese create a nice smooth finish. It’s light, but filling and fun to eat.
Level of Recommendation: Prefect for an early spring picnic.
