A Farmer’s Choice Omelet with Oregon Smoked Bacon and a Spiced Coffee

My aunts were visiting over the weekend and brought with them bacon that was smoked by a friend of theirs in Oregon (link to Facebook page). Unfortunately this amazing bacon isn’t available unless you live in the state of Oregon.

However, I can give you all a great breakfast idea for this week’s food pairing.

The Drink:

Honestly, I use the term spiced coffee to mean any time I add spices to the brewing process of the coffee. It’s easy and tastes fantastic. Here’s one version for y’all to try.

What you’ll need:

  • Medium unflavored coffee
  • 5 cloves
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • Dash of ground turmeric

Using a standard brewing coffee pot, place ground coffee in with the cloves, cinnamon stick, and turmeric. Brew coffee as normal.

The Food:

What you’ll need:

  • Eggs
  • Buchholz Farms smoked bacon
  • Half and half
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Roasted Peppers
  • Broccoli (precooked)
  • Tomatoes
  • Butter
  • Micro Greens

Preheat your oven to 400OF.

Slice up the bacon and place on a baking sheet. Place in the oven for about 20 minutes or you feel it is fully cooked. Remove excess oil. Keep warm in a turned off oven.

While the bacon is nearly finished baking, slice the tomatoes, roasted red peppers, and broccoli. Toss in a pan and sauté in butter. Crack 3 to 4 eggs into a bowl. Beat the eggs and add a splash of half and half. Pour over the cooked veggies.

You’ll want to spread the eggs as thin as possible. Sprinkle on the parmesan cheese and allow to melt. Flip over in half once the liquid is all evaporated.

Top with micro greens, serve with the bacon, and enjoy!

The Pairing:

The omelet is light and fully of full veggie flavors. The bacon is crispy and has a great smoky flavor. The eggs add a nice underlining creaminess that is much needed.

The coffee isn’t heavily spiced, only hinted at. It’s not like the overly spiced coffees you’ll find in the store.

Together, the spices and veggies roll lovely off the tongue. It feels like the morning start on a farm.

Level of Recommendation: Perfect breakfast for a day when you’ll be working hard outside.
